Westgate Youth Project is a not for profit organisation that runs The Umbrella Club, a targeted provision for young people aged 10 – 19 with hidden disabilities; defined as any disability that is not immediately apparent upon meeting the young person, for example ASD, ADHD or Mental Illness. Westgate Youth Project adheres to the social model of disability, by removing barriers to access and achievement.
The overall aim of the project is to provide a safe, nurturing and positive environment where young people with hidden disabilities, aged 10 – 19 can meet, socialise, make new contacts and friends, learn and cultivate a sense of belonging in an informal setting.
Young people are able to build positive healthy relationships with other young people with whom they have many things in common.
The Umbrella Club is open every Thursday evening at Westgate Community Centre, in Westgate on Sea. The project is funded by Children In Need and The Henry Smith Charity.

From the Westgate Youth Project Team
Westgate Youth Project relies on grant funding, donations and the fund raising efforts of young people, staff and volunteers.
We are delighted that The Umbrella Club has been selected to take part in the Co – op Local Community Fund. This is a great funding opportunity for the project and all funds granted will be used to facilitate workshops for young people. They will be able to learn new skills and access new opportunities while developing a sense of belonging and becoming part of a community. To support us all you need to do is follow this link:
